If you followed along yesterday, welcome back. If you’re new, welcome to HotelsByDay’s newest blog feature: Travel Diary. This week I’ll be exploring the beautiful Marco Island. I’ve only been here two days, and have fallen in love with the island. It is definitely a place you need to get to at some point! My only wish, of course, is that there are more daycation locales around!

We started our morning off with a great 3-mile run. Word to the wise, definitely hit the pavement before 8 am otherwise you’ll be consumed by humidity. Marco is an amazing place to go running. No two houses are the same here, and there is a huge diversity in its inhabitants. Due to the varying real estate, it makes for lovely views and keeps your mind off of running. We ran down the road that singer Shania Twain’s house in on, and every property was just gorgeous. It was almost certainly the best way to start the day!

After a delicious breakfast, Ethan and I went and returned the turtle that he saved a few days ago to its natural habitat. Saying goodbye was difficult because we had bonded over our mutual love of banana and papaya. But he definitely is happy in his new home at one of the most populated turtle locations on the island.

Finally, we hit the beach at the J.W. Marriot. There is nothing quite like this hotel. It is simply beautiful both inside and out, especially around this time of year. They have a gorgeous tree and a sand sculptor that comes in. The water is crystal clear and copious sand bars make walking on water a possibility! It doesn’t hurt that you get an amazingly even tan either.

The food at the restaurant was delicious. I noshed on some amazing carne asada tacos while sipping on a glass of La Marca prosecco, and Ethan grabbed a local brew and a grouper sandwich! Definitely would recommend both staying at the hotel and eating at one of the amazing restaurants there.

We finished our day off with some shopping at the nearby outlets followed by picking up his sister and her husband at the airport. After a deliciously splurge worthy meal at Chik-Fil-A we made the journey home and relaxed with some drinks and season 2 of Mr. Robot. Another great ending to a great day on the island.
