Explore the “Water of Life”

Whisky was invented in Scotland around 1494. It was dubbed ‘uisge beatha,’ Gaelic for water of life. It is believed to have been brought to Scotland by Christian missionary monks. All whisky must be aged for at least three years but the longer the whisky ages in their oak barrels, the higher the quality. Every whisky has a guaranteed-age statement. It’s one way consumers can be assured of what they’re getting. But there’s so much more to Scotch whisky than a number.

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society is driven by their desire to create the best whisky. They began decades  ago with a single malt whisky cask. The Society was a group of friends whose love of whisky made them want to expand the whole experience.

Each of their single cask whiskies pass their expert Tasting Panel. Then it’s offered in its legendary Society green bottle. The connoisseurs are looking for two basic criteria: quality and interest.

“All our whiskies are bottled at cask strength and are not subjected to chill filtration or any other interference, so members can enjoy their dram as if it were straight from the cask,” says The Society. “The net result is bottlings that often surprise. Accurately reflecting the remarkable variety in the craft of distillation, as well as the infinite complexities of wood, spirit and time, which can only be uncovered in a single cask bottling.”
